For individuals

Know what your work pays. Then ask for it.

Most people walk into a review or an offer conversation without a number. What It Pays™ gives you the government-verified range for your role in your state, tracks your pay over time, and shows you exactly where you stand before you say a word.

Government-verified data • All 50 states • 40,000+ job titles • One plan, everything included

Do any of these sound familiar?

You don't know what your role pays.

Job boards show a range for somewhere else. Friends won't say. A national average is not the number for your title in your state.

Every pay conversation feels like a guess.

You take the offer, accept the raise, and wonder afterward whether you left money on the table. Guessing feels like losing, because it usually is.

Pay should be based on data, not on who negotiates hardest.

Employers benchmark every role against the market. You should be able to see the same numbers they do.

That gap is fixable. It takes the right data and about sixty seconds.

Built by someone who has sat on the other side of the table.

Somewhere, someone decided what your role is worth. They had a range in front of them when they did it. What It Pays™ exists so you have the same range. It was built by Dr. Bruce Brown, PhD in HR and a practicing compensation consultant who works with companies on exactly these decisions, because the people being paid deserve the same numbers the people doing the paying already have.

The numbers come from government-published wage data, the same source employers use to benchmark you, not from self-reported surveys or crowd-sourced guesses. What It Pays™ maps your title to it and does the math. You can read more about the source on the how-it-works page.

What you're getting

Government-verified ranges for 40,000+ titles in all 50 states

Your salary, bonuses, and benefits encrypted, visible only to you

Built by a PhD in HR, not a job board

Self-service by design. You run the numbers; the tools do the math.

Three steps. Sixty seconds to your first answer.

1

Look up your role and state

Type your title, pick your state. See the low, typical, and high end of what your role pays there, and how that shifts as you gain experience.

2

See where you stand

Add your pay and get your comp ratio, estimated percentile, and a plain read on whether you're under, at, or above market.

3

Make your move with numbers

Evaluate an offer, build the case for a raise, or plan a move. Every tool ends with a number you can say out loud.

Everything in one plan

One plan, one price. Every tool below is included, as often as you need it, on your phone or your desk.

State salary lookup

Any title, any state, with percentile ranges and experience bands. Hourly or annual.

Your market position

Comp ratio, estimated percentile, and a plain-language read on your current pay.

Salary and total comp tracker

Log raises, bonuses, and benefits. Watch your pay move against the market year over year.

Offer analysis and comparison

Put an offer next to the market and next to what you make now, benefits included. Compare up to three.

Raise case builder

A one-page, data-backed case for your next review: market position, inflation since your last raise, and what to ask for.

Take-home and margin

See what a salary leaves you after taxes and your monthly costs, so any job you look up answers "can I afford this?"

Compare states and relocation

Same job, different state, with your own spending adjusted for the cost of the move.

Market alerts and review reminders

A heads-up before your review with inflation and wage movement since your last raise, and a note when your role's data updates.

Annual pay report

Your year in pay on one page each January, plus negotiation scripts and the option to book a 30-minute review with Dr. Brown.

One plan. One number. No surprises.

A 3% raise on a salary that's already 10% under market is still under market. The cost of not knowing compounds every year you don't check. $99 is less than the difference on one paycheck.

What changes: you walk into the next conversation with the range, your position in it, and the words to say. That's the whole product.

Questions people ask before signing up

Where does the salary data come from?

Government-published wage data covering every state and 40,000+ job titles, refreshed each year when the new figures are released. It is the same data most employers benchmark against. Our how-it-works and FAQ pages explain the source and how we map your title to it.

Who can see my salary?

You. Your pay, bonuses, benefits, and spending are encrypted before they are stored, and nothing you enter is ever shown to an employer. If you share a result card, it shows your position in the range, never your number, unless you choose to include it.

Is there a free version?

The homepage lookup is free and shows the national range for any title with no account. The free pay check tells you which band you are in. State-level data, your own analysis, and tracking are part of the plan.

What happens if I cancel?

You keep access until your renewal date, then the tools lock. Your history is kept for twelve months in case you come back, and you can ask for a copy of your data or have it deleted at any time.
